1. How often do you add new music to the site?

Every Tuesday and Thursday.

Occasionally we may take breaks from this schedule, but we’re usually pretty consistent.

2. Can I request certain music for your library?

Sure! We love to get feedback from our users on the types of music they enjoy most — whether that’s genre, style, or length.

The best place to make suggestions would be on our Facebook page.

3. What file formats is your music available in?

Every song has a WAV, AIFF, and MP3 version available to download. The WAV format is full uncompressed CD quality, 16 bit/48.000 kHz (1,411.2 kbit/s) and the original version provided to us by the composer. Both the AIFF and MP3 versions are created from the WAV track.

4. Which format do you recommend I download?

The unsatisfying answer is, as always, “it depends,” but here are some simple questions that might help you decide which is best for your situation:

  • Would I prefer high-quality sound or small file-size?
    • High Quality Sound: AIFF or WAV
    • Small File Size: MP3
  • Is the primary use of the file on a Windows PC or Apple Macintosh system?
    • Windows: WAV or MP3 (see above)
    • Mac OS X: AIFF or MP3 (see above)
  • Does the program I plan to use the song in support this format?
    • Yes: Download the appropriate file type
    • No: Download the high quality file and convert it to a usable format

There are countless other considerations as well and we encourage you to read this guide about the difference between the three formats.

When it comes down to it, choose the format you’re most comfortable working with and that you understand — you can always come back to Free Stock Music later on if you change your mind!

5. I’m already logged in, but when I try to download a song, it says I’m not. What’s wrong?

This problem typically arises when you have multiple tabs or windows of your Internet browser open to Free Stock Music. In one window you may be logged in while on the other you may be not. If this is the case, our system err’s on the side of caution and assumes you are not logged in.

Please make sure you are logged in on all browser windows or tabs before you download.

Finally, to ensure full compatibility, we suggest using Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox to access Free Stock Music as those are the web browsers we use to test the site.

6. I receive a 403 Forbidden message when I try to download, what’s happening?

Usually this happens when trying to download from an older version of Internet Explorer or Opera browsers. Certain versions of these browsers don’t support modern web standards that we used to build our site around. The simplest solution is to use Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox (both are free browser solutions).

7. Is this website really free? What’s the catch?

Yes it is really free. We promise. Period. There is no catch at all.

You sign up for the site and we give you free music. If you still aren’t buying it, you can read the testimonials of our users who will happily agree there is no catch at all.

8. Will you always be free or is this for a limited time?

We will always be free and have no plans whatsoever to charge for the site, ever.

9. How do you make money? What’s in it for you?

We are sponsored by a stock footage company called Footage Firm. Because of this sponsorship, we don’t worry about making money — we only worry about delivering the best resource possible for free production music. In exchange, Footage Firm gets some good PR and marketing.

Read our full license agreement.

10. Do I have to pay any fees for using your music?

No. Our music comes with a royalty-free, worldwide license agreement that never expires.

11. Am I allowed to use your music for a commercial purpose?

Yes! You are permitted by our license agreement to use our music commercially as long as you add substantial value to the songs.

Read our full license agreement.

12. What does “substantial value” mean?

The term “substantial value” means you modify or add to the music in a way that makes it uniquely yours. Simply by adding it to a video or singing lyrics on the song, you add substantial value to it.

This is an important concept because we do not permit users to re-sell our music “as-is.”

Read our full license agreement.

13. If I use your music, do I have to give you credit?

No you do not. If you’d like to, you may, but it is not required under our license agreement.

14. What is the name of your composer(s) so I can provide proper credit?

We cannot provide individual information about composers because our library is comprised of many songs from many different composers. If you wish to give credit, you can attribute the song to “Free Stock Music” or “FreeStockMusic.com”

15. What are the ISRC numbers associated with your songs?

Unfortunately, we do not have ISRC numbers at this time for our music.

16. YouTube has flagged my video with your music, what do I do?

Because we don’t create the songs ourselves (we buy them from other composers), other parties may have copyright on the material. In some cases, they choose to enforce that on YouTube.

If that happens, you can use our license agreement as proof to YouTube that you indeed have the rights to use the music.

17. I didn’t receive an email with my password. Where is it?

On rare occasions, our emails are filtered into spam or junk folders. Before you contact us with this problem, be sure to check in those folders.

Also, be sure to add info@freestockmusic.com to your whitelist or contacts list to make sure you receive emails from us in the future, such as password reset requests.

18. How do I change my password?

You can change your password via the “Update Profile” page located here.

19. I forgot my password, can you send me a new one?

Sure! Just fill out this simple form and we will e-mail you instructions on choosing a new password.

20. How do I change the e-mail address on my account?

You can change your email address via the “Update Profile” page located here.

Please note that if you change your e-mail address, you will have to use your updated e-mail to login to the site in the future.

21. How do I delete my account?

As of right now, accounts cannot be deleted through the website. Please contact our support team and request for your account to be deleted.
